Lions Club International, founded in 1917, is a community service organization with 1.4 million members in 44,000 clubs in 192 countries. Lions Clubs are dedicated to seeking out and helping those in need. |
Lions' mission and motto is "We Serve".
Projects range from cleaning up the park to bringing sight to the blind. Lions around the world are donating millions of dollars to local community causes, and millions of hours of hands-on service. Lions around the world are dedicating themselves to eradicating preventable blindness. One of our major international service commitments is SightFirst: Lions Conquering Blindness. SightFirst was established in 1990 as an aggressive global blindness prevention initiative. The program joins blindness prevention experts, blindness prevention organizations, government and Lion volunteers in an effort to establish long-term solutions in eliminating preventable and reversible blindness. The program has provided assistance in over 78 countries on six continents.
Lions are also financing vocational training to help the underprivileged and disabled gain economic independence.
Lions also sponsor drug awareness and education programs for youths around the world.
Another continued major international activity of the association is Lions Opportunity for Youth. The program provides young people with opportunities for achievement, learning, contribution and service, individually and collectively, through sponsorship of activities identified as best practices inthe field of youth development.
Other major service activities of Lions Clubs International include:-
| Hearing and speech action and work with the deaf | |
Environmental services
International relations
A variety of activities unique to local communities around the world.
